When My Demons Meet Yours

When My Demons Meet Yours
(For Winner Ochefije Matthew)

When my demons meet with yours
and the wind brings the
sulphuric odours of hades
and your demons to mine are fledgelings
are tender-eyed partridge doves
I hope you'll hold me still
I hope you will, my love!

When my demons meet yours
in your garden and your flowers
wither for their overwhelming aura
dark, cold and smouldering
And you find them earless -
That company untamed to heed appeals
I hope you'll hold me
Hold me on, my love

When my demons meets yours
and mine are a naked amorous folk
whose music is my moaning
and dance: my writhing body
And yours are red-gowned lovers of
Lizst, Mozart and Beethoven on the piano
Would you stay?

When they ravish my mind
with wildest vigour while
you are kept without
a fence of smoke screen
I hope you'll stay, pray

When they, my demons meet yours
and they show off their spoils
and in their treasure chest are my stars
I sold for a borrowed toy of theirs
alongside their loyal captives
chained to their waists and you recognise
my guardian angel amongst them
clad in tattered tunic with mother's
crucifix in his grasp
I hope you'll stay
Oh, stay!

When they, my flawed angels
stand unmasked to reveal
their blood shot eyes
When they come breath close
for the very first time
to lock eyes with yours
and beside them is a smoking
censer of burning maps to my heart
I hope you'll hold me still for
that long long journey
where true paths whisper and shy
while the false beckon with
endearing melodies of flutes
on that route to my heart
I hope you'll stay, brave

When your demons in awe bow to mine
for their mastery in craft of
painting me as one of them
waist down
I hope you stay,
May I find you here, my beloved.
